My new house is pre-wired with 2 speakers in 3 main zones. Each room also has a panel that was designed to be used as volume control and/or keypad installation.
I currently own 2 old ZP120s so I will need to purchase a third to complete the setup. On my main floor, where the kitchen/dining room/formal living room is there is one zone. I'm worried that a ZP120 powering two speakers will not provide the music experience I want on the main floor. Is it possible to use a separate amplifier with the ZP120s?
If I decided to keep the ZP120s with no amp, what wattage speaker should I be looking at? Monoprice 6.5" has a nominal wattage of 40W vs 80W for their 8" speaker. Will the 8" be grossly underpowered with the 55W ZP120? Will the sound be much poorer than the 6.5" speaker?
Also, what is all of this talk about needing in-wall volume controls? Searching around I see people talking about needing volume control knobs in each room if you are using ZP90s? Can someone explain this to me? I thought volume for each zone can be controlled via the controller?
