I ordered a Playbar last week and it should arrive in a few days. I am aware Sonos recommends connecting the Playbar directly to the Optical output of the TV, despite the fact that Dolby Digital 5.1 may not pass through the TV (dependent on TV). Therefore, is there a reason I should not connect the Playbar directly to the Optical output of my cable box (Cisco Explorer 4642HDC)? Wouldn't this negate any possibility of losing the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix?
BTW, the Playbar is going in my bedroom so I do not intend to add a second video source. And yes, I am aware I would need to add a pair of Play3 and the Sub in order to receive all five audio channels. Thank you.
