Advice on setup

Hi all.

Recently I've been investigating my options for a new audio setup in my house and it'll likely be a Sonos system. The system I have in mind is the following:

Network: Synology NAS with all my music and video

Downstairs: TV, pair of Play:3s
Upstairs: TV, one Play:5

The requirement is that I can use both systems for playing music and for watching video. I'd like to run XBMC on one or two Raspberry Pis because of the low energy use, so that I can leave them on. The problem with the Pi is that it only has one HDMI output, and the problem with the Play:5 is that it only has one line in.

I can think of two alternatives, which I've illustrated here: i.imgur.com/VpCJIDM.png

Solution 1 would use one Pi, which would output audio to the Play:5 (which in turn could share it with the Play:3s, correct?). It would then have to somehow split the HDMI to feed into both TVs. I think there might be devices out there that do this, but I don't know how convenient and/or expensive they are. I don't feel like paying a bunch or having to manually switch between the TVs.

Solution 2 would use two Pis. HDMI could then be fed into each TV separately, but audio would have to be mixed. I'm guessing any (DJ) mixing panel would work, but perhaps also something like this: www . stoweblank . com/tinymix

By the way: I had originally planned to start out with two Play:5s, one downstairs, one upstairs, and then later expand the downstairs setup with two Play:3s (for a sort of 3 channel surround, if you will), but I've since been told that this is not possible. Is that correct?

Does anyone have any experience with a setup like the one I have in mind? Do I want something that can't be done? Or am I overlooking a simple solution? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
