Why its worth it

We've had a single Play3 in the kitchen now for about 20 months or so and been well pleased with our micro Sonos setup. So I've been considering for a while now to put a Connect in the lounge plugged into my Denon AVR. Till now our music in the lounge has been served by a TVIX media server along with all our photos and a few videos. The TVIX is a pain to manage having to unplug and carry upstairs to my PC to load new stuff on - also it can be a bit flaky at times, cutting tracks off mid way etc.

What has put me off the Connect solution so far has been, quite honestly, the cost - 279GBP for what? And its not like you can get it cheaper by shopping around or buying on-line! There are loads on eBay second hand (is this a worry?) but with winning bids over £200 is it worth the hassle if something goes wrong?

Anyway as it's my birthday later this month I (or rather we) took the plunge this weekend and ordered from our local John Lewis on a next day collection (JL offer a 2 year warranty). So spent a while on Saturday preparing by feeding an optical cable from AVR (nightmare job!), renaming my input source on the AVR, and creating a new "activity" on my Harmony remote. So picked my Connect up from John Lewis yesterday and within a matter of minutes had it connected, software updated, and grouped with the kitchen P3. Immediately I knew I had made the right decision, it just sounded so good via the Denon and KEF 5.1 surround.

Then to cap it all, when I went back to my PC there was a mail from Sonos to welcome me - I assume it picked my email address up when I did the update - how cool is that?
