Fed up!

Dear all,
After purchasing the Sonos Connect yesterday to complement my first steps into HiFi territory, I am struggling to get things set up.
I am using the Connect device to read music from my computer folder and play through the HiFi. I am however constantly bombarded with the 'computer xxxxx cannot be found' message. I have trawled through the forums and this seems to be the bane of many new starts with Sonos. I've tried technical support by email and done as advised. Zilch. Has anybody resolved this in the past?
I am able to stream my spotify music wirelessly, but am not able to add the music folder from my mac. Obviously the network side of things is OK if I can stream spotify music. My configuration is as below.
Help!

~Macbook Air - OSX 10.8.2
connected wirelessly to SONOS Connect
~SONOS Connect linked to my router (CISCO E4200 ver 1) by ethernet. Router connected to Fibreoptic Hub.
~SONOS Connect linked by TOSLINK optical cable to a Lindemann DAC.
~DAC connected to a Leema Acoustics Tuscana II amplifier and speakers

I have done the necessary disabling of my firewall, ticking the SMB thingy but to no avail.
Would love to hear from you about how you fixed this nuisance.
Thanks
