HD sound in the future?

Hi to all,
I am sad that sonos system does not support higher resolution FLAC files. Is this a matter of hardware? If and when Sonos decide to support high resolution say 96/24, would that mean we would need to change hardware?
Does anyone know of any plans for supporting HD formats?
