Sonos and Apple Airport Express

Hi Folks,

I currently have my entire music collection (ITUNES) located on a host PC in the study and in the ICLOUD for when I require.

For streaming purposes I prefer my kit to access the library via the PC in my study as the broadband connection is only around 2MB and cloud use is slow.

Anyway, I am about to purchase a Play 5 for the study and plan to connect it to the Apple Airport Express so that I can play my content via iTunes either from a mobile device IOS or simply the PC itself when in iTunes.

I want to avoid using SONOS App if possible, provide I can get the same functionality from APPLE APP etc.

Question?

Do I still require the SONOS bridge for the system or do I only require this if I plan to use the SONOS software AP to control and manage the music? I.E with the Airport Express, so I need SONOS bridge?

From what I can gather, the Apple Airport Express works ok with SONOS, but appreciate any feedback that anyone has?

For example, I’m assuming unless I am using iTunes directly from the PC, I need some sort of management APP for the IOS devices from Apple to assist with controlling SONOS, Volume control etc.

Or Is it a case that I need to install SONOS APP, Supply SONOS bridge and simply use the AIRPORT express to channel my iTunes sound directly from ITUNES when using he PC? So in essence I need both systems

Essentially, if I can get away without using SONOS APP and bridge and use an apple airport express and some sort of SONOS friendly management app it would be great.

The study is the only room SONOS will be located in, so I have no issue with controlling multiple zones etc.

I use Apple products mostly so want to keep the APPS, software etc as generic as possible.

Hope this makes sense???

Thanks

Simon.
