Hi,
I recently acquired a PLAY:5 and I'm very happy with it, but there is something I think would be nice to improve: Stand-By power consumption.
I realized that when I hit pause in the controller app (this is the way to "turn-off" the device provided by Sonos) the speaker still emits a very soft noise sound. As I read in other forum posts, sonos says that the Amp is turned off automatically when you hit pause. Then, why is the speaker still emitting a soft noise?
I consider myself pretty aware with the environment and I have a device that shows the power consumption of the entire house in real time, so I decided to measure it when the player is in pause, and it is 20W just for a single PLAY:5, so if you have 4 speakers, you are consuming 80W, more than a standard bulb always ON, 24h-365days. Is this normal?
I'm worried about this, because I don't want to go speaker by speaker plugging and unplugging the cord every time that I want to play some music, that simply doesn't make sense. But neither I want an 80W device all day ON, that's crazy. My Wifi-Ethernet router with a USB connected hard drive consumes only 10W.
Could this be fixed with a software update?
