Playbar vs. AV receiver

I'm new to Sonos, but I have a Denon 3808 with multiple AV inputs (Cable box, Xbox, Wii, Roku, PC running iTunes, etc.)

The Denon feeds HDMI to the Panasonic Viera plasma and to 5+1 wired speakers.

I have another room that I want to set up with a similar setup -- video and music.

Does the Playbar's sound (richness, surround, etc.) compare to a mid-level AV receiver wires to 5+1 speakers?
