Help with setting up new Sonos network when travelling

I've come to Centre Parcs (large holiday resort) and brought a laptop with music on it and a play 3 - I was hoping to set up my Sonos here as the customer support had advised this was possible however it won't work and says I need to connect to the router (which we don't have in our room). Now customer support are telling me that becasue it's not a private network it's impossible. I'm not impressed with their contradictory advice but does anyone here know any work arounds?

OK, so it's nearly Christmas and I'm feeling in a good mood but I just have to say a word or two about the Sonos products I've purchased over the last 3 years.
First of all, they just work straight out of the box.
The Play 5 was my original purchase which even my wife approved of. Then a couple of Play 3's,and two more Play 5's.
Then along came the Play 1. What a sound from such a small box.
The big game changer - the sub, came next. I winced a bit at the price but I was reeled in like a fish on a hook once I heard a demo.
Finally, we have just purchased a Playbar, which together with the sub has transformed the TV sound.
So, I know there are people with Sonos problems, (I had one with my network but this was sorted with grateful help from this forum), but my musical life has been totally enriched by my Sonos experience. And no, I have no affiliation with them.

Cheapest way to connect 2 Play 1s to my TV

Just bought my first Play 1 and couldn't be more excited! I have a question about the Play 1s. I know I can't connect them directly to my Samsung Plasma, but all I want is 2 play 1s connected to my tv and that's it. What is the cheapest way to do this? I'm trying to get rid of clutter in the living room and don't want an amp involved since the Play 1s are already powered. Is there a way to connect them to the TV without using a Connect/Connect Amp? I'd rather have 2 Play 1s than a Playbar so I can move them around the house if I need to, plus it's way cheaper at $400 vs $700.

How can i locate an album which appears in my Sonos album list, but nowhere else

The other day I came across an album title in my Sonos albums list. Some of the details were wrong so I decided to fix it in iTunes. Lo and behold that album title doesn't appear in my iTunes albums. I do have that album with the details correct in my Album list. So I have it twice, once right and once wrong.

I've tried; searching through my database using JrIver (in case some odd tagging thing is going on), searching the drive manually, and looking through directories manually.
I'm using a Mac with a QNAP NAS, any suggestions?

Edit: found it. Went back and started from scratch & found a folder with 2 albums I had bought online a while ago. At the timeI had copied them to my main directory and tidied up the details, but left the original download in the directories that get indexed by Sonos.

Help-- system is cutting out

I have my zp100 hardwired but it is showing red in the network matrix. I also have my bridge2(Boost) hardwired but it is showing red as well.

Not sure that I understand how to read the matrix. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My boost is right by my living room so I am not sure why the signal would be low there.

CR100 and Contributing Artist

I have had Sonos for ages - and still very happy with it.

We have 2 CR100 and the other day I wanted to find a song from using the contributing artist, but the contributing artist was not there! I notice that there is a tick box for the Android and PC app. Any ideas how to get it to appear?

Happy Christmas - I wonder how many Sonos items Santa has fitted on his sleigh?

Hallo, ik ben nieuw hier.


Ik heb de volgende opstelling in mijn living: 4 x sonos play1, 1 x sonos sub en nu sinds vandaag ook de sonos connect.

De bedoeling van mijn sonos connect is om mijn televisie te laten afspelen op op de volledige installatie.


Alles aangesloten, was echt simpel zoals de rest. Maar iedere 10 min valt de klank weg voor 20 seconden en automatisch terug. Dit heb ik enkel als ik de televisie in combinatie met de connect gebruik.

Aan wat kan dit liggen? Voordien had ik nooit geen enkele storing.

Dropouts with Deezer (and other streaming)....Help!

I'm pretty much out of options and getting frustrated. I have three Play 5's, two Play 3's, two Play 1's, a sub, and a connect hooked to my receiver. I've tried several options and I'm still getting dropouts, to the point of whole rooms going out, when trying to stream from Deezer. I realize it's high quality, but should still work.

So here's my set up - I have a two story house with a full basement, so basically a 3 story house. Each floor is about 18'x50' - total about 2,500 sq ft. The router is in the basement. From the router, I have it connected to Apple Airport Extreme and the router feeds a direct wire connection to each floor; the basement, the first floor, and the upstairs - so one wired line on each floor.

In the basement I have a Bridge next to the router (wired connection). Still in the basement, down the hall about 20 Ft I have the Connect hooked to a receiver. The connect is also wired.

On the first floor (main floor) I have three Play 5's, two (and a sub) as a stereo pair in the back kitchen and one singe Play 5 in the living room.

Upstairs I have two Play 3's and two Play 1's. The Play 3's in the front of the house and the Play 1's in back, right above the Play 5's in the Kitchen and the Router and Bridge in the Basement.

I finally bit the bullet and bought the Boost - still have issues. So now I have the Boost wired to the router in the basement, I have a Bridge on the first floor, kitchen, wired to the basement router, and a Bridge on the second floor towards the front of the house also wired back to the basement router.

I honestly don't know how I could make this more solid - I have something wired on every floor back to the router yet I'm still getting dropouts. I've tried changing channels, bought the boost, adding the extra bridges, I'm out of options.

About the dropouts - it's really bad with Deezer, but also happens with other streaming services - so I even upped my Internet connection and I'm getting 50 Mbps. I seem to be ok if I stream to one or two rooms, but if I add a third or god forbid try Party Mode, it all starts dropping. I do seem to be ok with stuff on my iPhone, but streaming just starts dropping.

Any ideas?

Help! Can't Remove Music Folder!!

Hello all,

I've been playing around with Libraries in order to add the music library from both my own Mac and my partner's Mac - both of us using iTunes.

Initially we managed to sync his library, and then eventually we tried to add my own. We noted that - for some reason - my Mac had not been saving my music to the normal iTunes folder, but instead one of the sub-folders (neither of us have a clue as to why...). So using the 'default' iTunes install settings did not work. Instead when I used the Music Library Settings >>> Add - I had to browse and select the sub-folder and add the library that way.

After the 3rd attempt (Sonos didn't seem to add the sub-folder initially for no apparent reason) we got the system to sync my library too. "Excellent!" we both thought.

We then noted that only his playlists appeared in the playlists folder. We did some research and decided this was probably due to the fact that my iTunes library decided to store the xml file in the wacky afore mentioned sub-folder.

In order to correct all these issues, I decided to correct my iTunes by moving my library from the sub-folder to the 'normal' iTunes folder, un-sync the sub-folder, and then add the new location again.

The problem that I am now having is that Sonos is absolutely refusing to allow me to remove the path to the now redundant sub-folder, no matter how many times I try to use the Remove functionality.
It is also now refusing to add music from the new folder. So now my library is essentially un-synced and cannot be re-synced.

Is there any way to fix this? I've tried uninstalling the app on all our devices - but it seems to remember the folders on the network even though the software has been uninstalled.

Or, alternatively, is there any way to completely re-set the entire network and start again? It's driving us both nuts trying to figure out what is going on!!

Hallo!
Ich habe heute vom Christkind ein Sonos Play 1 geschenkt bekommen. Ich habe aber leider das Problem, dass ich zu Hause WLAN habe jedoch in Düsseldorf wo ich eig. wohne kein WLAN habe sondern nur einen Internetstick sowie mein Handy.
Nun ist die Frage, ob ich das Play 1 trotzdem nutzen kann oder geht dies das gar nicht?
Also könnte ich mir das Gerät via WLAN zu Hause einrichten und dann in Düsseldorf Musik über mein iPhone ohne WLAN oder Router abspielen?

Adding new zone players when using ipad 1

Firstly, given the day and time Happy Christmas to all.

I've had my Sonos since the early says, so what 9 years or more I've had a couple of zone players in boxes for 18 months pending a house move and wanted to get them operational for the holidays. I'm running v5 on the existing ZP's and on this ipad 5.1. I've an old Ipad 1 which still gets used and each time I get a pop up message telling me to upgrade the Sonos app I ignore it.

But now I'm nervous, can I add my new ZP I bought 18 months ago or will this force a complete system update and I'll lose support for my ipad 1 ?

activate deezer on sonos

Hi all

I have just gotten a play 1 with a year free deezer premium - but I can't seem to get it to work.
On sonos homepage in STEP 4 (ACTIVATE DEEZER ON YOUR SONOS SYSTEM) the code dosen't show up. So I can't activate deezer premium, all I can hear is deezer radio. :-(

I have tried several different browsers without any lock.

What to do??

Playlists gone after changing provider

We moved to another address and changed provider.
Now my playlists are all gone. I've got the the music of Deezer in it.

Merry christmas everyone :)

So i got some money saved up, and i want to expand my sonos system.

Right now i got:
Bathroom - Play 1
Kitchen - Play 3
Bedroom - Play 3
Living/TV room - Playbar

Now, i really cant figure out what to do next..

Either i go for the SUB in my living room.
Or i go for 2 Play 5, to switch with the Play 3, and use the 3's as surround/music in my living room.

What would you do??

guten tag
ich habe mir eine playbar und ein sub auf weihnachten geschenkt :)
das einrichten ging soweit ganz gut, aber von meinem tv bekomme ich kein signal über den optischen ausgang auf die playbar.

mein tv: tishiba 42z3030d
sonos playbar und sonos sub

hoffe mir kann hier jemand helfen. freue mich auf eure antworten und wünsche schöne festtage.

Thumbnails in artist view & queuing whole albums in UPnP

I have my music on a samba share, organised in media monkey as artist/album. I have album art embedded as ID3 tags, and also as folder.jpg. Using the android sonos app I've added the share & all my music appears fine. If I browse albums, I get album art. However when I browse by artist, there is no thumbnail. Is there a way to get thumbnails up?

I also use Kodi, and share the music as a UPnP share - if I browse the UPnP share in the android app, then I get artist thumbnails, but with UPnP I can't queue whole albums, which makes it useless.

Can I either get artist thumbnails from the samba share, or queue whole albums from UPnP?

Android doesn't find Sonos when on wireless extender

I have my primary router in the front of the house, then a powerline wireless extender in the back of the house (a TP-Link AV500). Both devices have the same network settings, and devices roam seamlessly between the two networks.

The sonos (a play:3) is towards the back of the house, where the extender signal is stronger, so it connects to the extender. It streams music from a samba share connected to the main router, and it works great - i.e. there is no problems with traffic between the extender & the main router.

The problem is the android app used to control the sonos. If my phone connects to the extender (the same AP as the sonos) then everything works fine. However if it connects to the primary router then it says it cannot find the sonos device. The problem is that at one end of the kitchen, most phones remain connected to the main router, and do not roam to the extender until they are towards the other end of the room, so it's pot luck whether devices can control the sonos or not.

Why does the sonos app not find the play:3 from the main router, and what can I do about it?

*Edit* I've just had a play with some more devices, and it gets weirder. My laptop (dell windows 8.1) is the same as my phone (oneplus one) - i.e. it cannot find the play:3 if it's on the main router, but can if it's on the extender. However my wife's phone (samsung galaxy S3) works fine on both networks. I.e. when it is connected to the main router, it can find & control the play:3 fine. So why is the galaxy S3 displaying the behaviour I'd expect, but the windows app & my oneplus one do not?
