Hello I currently have a 3 Tb Seagate Central nas drive with over 1tb of music on it I am looking at a easy way to copy everything from it to another drive I have connected it to an external hd with a usb lead and unsurprisingly it iterally taking hours just to copy a few albums
Can anyone recommend my best option for doing a complete back of the drive and if possible to keep it constantly updated, would it be possible to get a reasonably priced 2 bay Nas enclosure so I could remove the disc from the Seagate and put it in there I don't mind shelling out to get something decent as the Seagate is not really up to the job anyway
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Budgie

Hoi ,

New to Sonos and thinking through some options.
I am curious if anyone has tried a configuration like this to get the stereo separation of the paired Play 1s combined with the larger sound of the Play 5.
I need the Play 5 so that I can get a Line-in connection (why can't Sonos have a cheaper line in option?), but I don't have space for 2 play 5s in this room.
I figure the Play 5 will add some low range to the setup, but I wonder if it will sound weird and if the stereo will be "out of sync" for lack of a better term.
Thanks

I just got a play:5 for my living room. It replaces a play:1 which I will put in my computer room/loft. I have another play:1 in the bedroom.
The play:1's have the newer pause button while the play:5 I just got has the older mute button.
I know the software upgrade makes the operation of the mute button identical to the pause button, but I was wondering if there was any difference in construction quality or sound quality, like older models are better and more sought after or the opposite, or no difference at all, stop worrying and start listening...?
Thanks!

Hi,
I am just about to get a DJ Controller and originally was thinking of using my Play 5s as monitors, i have just read that there is a 70ms delay which would render djing impossible.
Does anyone know if this 70ms delay is still there when the Play5's are disconnected from the Network and used as stand alone AUX connection?
Any help would be really appreciated as the controller arrives on Tuesday and if this wont work i want to go and buy some monitors but was hoping the Play 5s would save me a purchase.
Thanks

Hi There,
I acquired a broken play 5 and am attempting to do the impossible ... repair it.
I am encouraged by the fact that the outer body was flawless and it looks like most of the internal components have a date of 2013 on them so I don't seem to be dealing with an old abused unit.
After taking the unit appart it seems like power is getting to the analogue board however I don't think there is any juice getting to the digital board.
I am just wondering if anyone has pin mapping for this unit so I can at least start tracing back from the power pins of the digital board to try and issolate the fault.
Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Cheers,
Sheldon

Hi Guys,
After updating my system to 5.2 controller the music from playbar+ sub is really poor in fidelity and quality, bass are much louder than before and generally there is a serious lack of fidelity with poor mid-range tones!
I'm really frustrated and anxious about my lost benefit of a very clear sound which I had till I used all the previous 5.x (including the betas)
Could we please make a bit of noise to push Sonos back to the former standard of quality?
thanks and welcome to anyone who wants join the post

Hallo zusammen,
Tausend Dank im Voraus!
Gruß

I made a copy of my iTunes Library on a QNAP NAS. iTunes is updated and seems to be reading from there at this path:
/Volumes/homes/steve/iTunes
I am trying to add this to SONOS and have gone to:
PREFERENCES / Music Library Settings
but I cannot use the path above. SONOS shows an ! mark at the end of the screen where I try to add the folder.
If I "Get Info" on the NAS folder (from Finder on my Mac) I get this path:
afp://QNAP(AFP)._afpovertcp._tcp.local/homes/steve/iTunes
SONOS will not take that syntax either
How should I be adding the NAS path to SONOS ?

Hi all,
We recently had to change our network/wifi password with our Internet provider. Since then, our Sonos will not work. I tried updating the app but when I go to do the setup again, it says that it does not recognize a Sonos system...
Any insight?!
Thanks! :)

Hi everyone,
I currently have 2 Play:1's as a stereo pair which sound awesome! For xmas I'm treating myself to the playbar!
Couple of questions..
For music what can of sound quality will I get? (i.e, will be sound basey like the Play:5 yet sound fuller and fill the room more like Play:1s paired?)
Last thing, I have an optical out on my Samsung TV (UE42F5000) Will this output a 5.1 channel if I wanted to hook up my Play:1s as surround?
I'm reading reports that for DTV stations that broadcast it and programs that have it, it will send out the 5.1 channel but it will not if you have say a PS3 hooked up via HDMI and in that case will only output in Stereo...
Many thanks
Jordan

Hallo zusammen,
Mal geht Titel A, mal nicht..
Vielen Dank schon mal!

I have had my Sonos system for 3-4 years and I reckon it has worked for less than 25% of that time. When I complained before a very nice and helpful chap got in touch with me from Holland and got it going again for me for a few months but then it started playing up again until it final stopped working.
A recent upgrade has given me a couple of months of good service so I had hoped that the constant problems might be behind me. On Friday I had a few friends round for a bit of a party which was totally spoiled by the Sonos stuttering, playing bits of unselected songs and then giving up completely. There will certainly be no new customers for Sonos amongst my friends.
It is too expensive to chuck it in the bin as my wife suggests. Does anyone else have a set up that is virtually unusable?

Pretty standard Sonos setup: Bridge wired to router, a couple of Play:1's and a few Play:3's, some wired, some not.
Got a ZP90 which I've now hooked up wired into a second switch in my home cinema but picking up IP address fine. Thing is, using the /status/showstp it shows that it is connected wirelessly. Any ideas how to force it so it uses the wired connection ? I note from the /status/review page this is the only device that is orange which would also suggest wireless / interference.
Not sure what to do next !! Thanks in advance.

I am trying to repair a PLAY5.
So far I have fixed a couple of problems in the power supplies. Then, I sleuthed out the reset generation for the MPC8247 CPU and have now determined that the PORESET is being generated correctly.
There is an On-Semi NCP303 reset supervisor that generates PORESET once the (gated) 3.3V CPU power comes up (which follows 1.5V).
Now, I can see that HRESET and SRESET are being driven low for ~10us every ~second or so.
From the MPC8247 reference manual, this appears to correspond to the software watchdog timer.
At reset, the watchdog is supposed to fire after 65535 ticks, using a /2048 prescaler on the 100MHz clock.
So that becomes 65535 * 2048 * 10ns = 1.34sec.
HRESET gets asserted for 1024 clocks on software watchdog event, which would work out to 10ns * 1024 = 10.24us.
So it lines up w/ the measurements.
So I would guess that, in order to make the watchdog fire, that some part of either the bootloader or firmware is corrupted.
Are there any known issues that can explain either getting corrupted? (Power fail during firmware update, for example?)

My basement currently has 2 play 5s in stereo pair. The measurements of the basement is 46 feet long by about 12 feet wide. One play5 is on one corner with the other stereo pair about 25-30 feet away on the same wall. The stereo image is already pretty stretched out. I'm trying to figure out ways to get the whole basement space covered with whole and uniform sound since the two play 5s do sound great. Here are my two scenarios-let me know if there are other ideas as well.
1. A second play 5 on the opposite wall of the first one and then stretch the other play 5 fully to the other end of the basement (46 feet away) with another (4th) across from it (12feet away). I imagine this would give more power if there was 2 separate grouped zones of 2 stereo pairs of play5s with the lefts together on one end of the basement and rights on the other. I think this might allow the stereo image to stretch out.
2. The second option is something I heard someone else recommend. Would I be able to stretch the second play 5 out fully to the other end (still wanting to stereo pair) if I was to put another play 5 or play 1 for that matter in mono between the 2 play 5s. Wouldnt that allow me to further the stereo image but not distort the distance?
Any help to increase my Sonos footprint the best is appreciated!

When I go into my playlists, my songs won't play. I am assuming that my music needs to be on the device (pc, ipad, phone) that I am trying to play from?
And what if the songs are on that device (say my pc for example) but in my itunes account...?
TIA :)

Hi
Just got my second zone yesterday. Crappy thing for an IT guys is it only takes max 10 minutes to setup :p
Question: How do I transfer currently playing music from one zone to another? Can't seem to find it anywhere...
Thanks
